Functional Capacity Evaluations

Georgia Rehabilitation Specialists, LLC is committed to returning employees back to the work place that is appropriate to meet both the employer and employees needs as soon as possible after an injury. Our comprehensive Industrial Rehabilitation Program is dedicated to providing quality rehabilitation services in an expedient format for all concerned.

We offer the Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), an extensive test used to determine the effort, physical capabilities, and work tolerance of the patient. The test can be performed on the upper and lower extremities and to specific job requirements. This program is designed, not only to get injured workers back on the job faster, but also to make the process less complicated.

Why Utilize The FCE?

  • Clearly defines job components (strength, endurance, and functional abilities)
  • Help to determine job placement for individuals re-entering the work force
  • Legally defensible
  • Determine effort put forth
  • Shows symptom exaggeration
  • Identifies the next step in the rehabilitation process
  • Meets National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health guidelines
  • Summarizes information for case closure
  • Provides clear cut, bottom line results for case closure

The Evaluation Process

  • Measures physical demands using U.S. Department of Labor criteria
  • Provides job specific testing
  • Averages three to four hours in length
  • Provides timely results

Components of the FCE

  • Musculoskeletal Evaluation
  • Maximum Voluntary Effort Testing (determines consistent versus inconsistent effort)
  • Strength Testing (determines lifting capabilities)
  • Functional Activities Tested (job specific if needed)
  • Dissimulation Profile (identifies system exaggeration)
  • Extrapolations (determines effort)
  • Assessment and Recommendations
